Engage Southeast North Carolina

Identifying Issues... Crafting Solutions... Taking Action

Our Community

Southeastern North Carolina is known as a destination for coastal vacations, second homes, golf, boating and retirement. However, our region has great disparities in the health and well-being of its residents, including high poverty and limited rural resources that result in health and economic issues. We are defining Southeastern North Carolina as the following six counties: New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender (coastal), Columbus, Duplin (rural) and Onslow (military).

According to the National Center for Charitable Statistics, Southeastern North Carolina is home to more than 598,000 residents and approximately 1,198 tax exempt organizations that include 883 public charities. These public charities include: arts & culture groups, community development organizations, religious groups, educational institutions, environmental & animal groups, health groups, human services, and other public interests.
