About Onslow County
Onslow County is 767 square miles, located in the coastal plains of Southeastern North Carolina bordered by Pender, Duplin, Jones and Cartaret counties. The county seat on Onslow County is the City of Jacksonville. According to the County's 2012 Community Health Assessment Report, Onslow was drastically changed by the establishment of Camp Lejeune in 1941, leading to large population growth and a large percentage increase in military personnel.
The population as of the 2010 Census of Onslow County is 177,772. Of that, 76.7% are white/Caucasian and 15.8% are African American. The major population centers in Onslow County are Jacksonville, Holly Ridge, Richlands, Swansboro, North Topsail Beach and the unincorporated town of Sneads Ferry.
